You Have a Way

 

I didn’t know a glance could slam my face

I expected a glance to be more subtle

But instead dread or passion resonates

And in your piercing gaze I feel both empowered and belittled

 

I didn’t know a word could mean so much

I never was one to nit-pick and to quibble

Until your spoken hello crashed upon my face

It changed my days.

And unexpectedly I for once felt real

 

You have a way.

A way of making grown men beg and robots blush

A way of making fear become a companion to your love

And I never knew that love could be so vulnerable

I never realized that a glance and word could end and start my days until today
